A Reason to Rejoice!

Do you ever appreciate those weeks where nothing significant happens? It feels like these days, they are few and far between. Although there have been times in the last month when we have craved the mundane, it has been filled with joy on many levels.

After 4.5 years in the making, we are now officially members of Wycliffe Bible Translators Australia! The months prior had felt painfully slow as we waited, and now we have been thrown into a flurry of activity as we set up new emails, work to set up our finance account, and had our first opportunity to share with a prayer group at Trinity Theological College about the work we will be doing.

In all the waiting and the delays of this process, God has been showing us that he is in charge, and his ways and his timing is perfect.
So we rejoice in our God who always works his plans out, in his timing, no matter how hard we work or how impatient we get. Please pray with us that we would keep trusting God in this next season of partnership development, particularly as we start building financial partnerships.

Baby steps

We have also had great joy in watching Aloysius make new discoveries that have opened up his world. This is always a delight, but has been particularly pronounced for us as we have often grappled with the widening gap between Aloysius and his peers.

One of these is the realisation that he can ask very specifically for what he wants by showing us an item, and clearly signing “more”. The joy on his face as he lets us know EXACTLY what he wants (i.e. I want you to read this particular book now) is contagious, and so we tend to go ahead and read him that book.

Such a simple thing, that makes a world of a difference for a little person who has no words.

Praise God for the gift of our son and the ways he constantly amazes us.

Pure Joy

But perhaps most significantly, we are constantly being reminded to rejoice not in earthly things, but in our Lord Jesus who died and rose again, and is now preparing a place for us to enjoy him forever.

On Resurrection Sunday, we got to thoroughly enjoy God as we stood together and sang these words:

Rejoice!
Come and lift your hands and raise your voice;
He is worthy of all praise,
Rejoice!
Sing the mercies of your King
And with trembling, rejoice.

And as Aloysius sat on Jess’ shoulders, hands full of her hair, he beamed at Jarod, happily kicked his feet, and babbled at the top of his voice. The joy of Aloysius certainly pointed us to rejoice in our Lord Jesus!

Please pray that we would look to Jesus for our ultimate joy, and would keep our relationship with him, and each other, a priority in this upcoming busy season.

We would love to hear from you… What has made you rejoice lately?
