A Whole New World

When was the last time you saw the world before you with fresh eyes?

There’s nothing quite like a new baby to make everything feel new, whether it’s your first or fifth!

We welcomed our daughter, Lilah Grace Hortin, at 8 am on Boxing Day, weighing 4.7kg. We have now officially entered the new world of parenting two children! We expected certain challenges, like interrupted sleep.

But it turns out there are other things that are new, like navigating her cockatoo-esque cry, and modelling to Aloysius how to be patient with her when she cries – all while recovering from the birth. We have also found a new delight, that is watching Aloysius grow and adjust, and show incredible gentleness with his little sister. So, for all the newness, and the constant challenge of meeting the needs of two little people, we also have double the joy and are overflowing with thanksgiving for this precious little family we get to nurture.

Please join us in praising God for this new life, for Lilah’s safe arrival, and for the joy it has been to get to know her already. Please pray for all of us as we adjust and learn how to navigate this new world, and especially for Aloysius as he learns a whole new level of patience and tolerance.

New Year’s Resolutions?

Have you made any new year’s resolutions? How are they going so far?

For us, 2024 was a year of learning to trust God, to hold our plans ever so lightly, and to be flexible as we stared uncertainty in the face. Who knows what 2025 will hold? Probably a whole lot of trusting God as we move to Melbourne and begin our work with Wycliffe Australia.

So, as we enter 2025, we will keep holding tightly to the only certain thing, that God will keep working for his glory and our good (Check out this song that Jess has been loving recently).

Please pray for us as we approach the move to Melbourne, that we would prepare to leave well, and that God would sustain us through this transition.

So… When Do You Actually Leave?

The simple answer is when we reach 100% of our financial support target. We are currently at 87%, which leaves about $945 per month before we can book tickets and move. We are so close!

A huge thank you to each of you who have played some part in making this happen – for your prayers, for your generosity, and for your encouragement, including those who have chosen to remain anonymous!

If you have been considering financial partnership, we would love it if you could either let us know, or follow this link to our member page on the Wycliffe Australia website. Even if you are not sure how much yet, it helps us to plan for our move if we know what you are considering.

Flexibility hits a whole new level in 2025!

Or perhaps you have already been supporting us financially, but you began earlier in 2024. Has your situation changed? Would you prayerfully consider whether you might be able to give a little bit more in 2025, to help us get to Melbourne?

Also, we would love to hear from you about how we can be praying for you. We probably won’t be able to meet up with each of you individually before we leave, but we won’t suddenly disappear – we will make sure there are opportunities for you to say goodbye once we have a moving date!

Please pray that God would raise up new people to partner with us, and that we would be able to reach 100% and move to Melbourne soon.

Prayer Points:

Thank God for:

  • The gift of Lilah, and her safe delivery
  • His goodness in sustaining and growing us in 2024.

Please pray:

  • All of us to adjust to being a family of 4, especially Aloysius as he learns patience and tolerance with his new sister
  • Us as parents to show patience and grace to both our children, and to each other, particularly in the midst of reduced sleep
  • For Jess to keep recovering from the birth, and for the discipline to rest well
  • Preparations for moving, both practical and in the way we prepare to say goodbye. Pray that we would be intentional about transitioning well
  • Us to reach 100% of our financial target so that we can move to Melbourne soon.
