From Little Things, Big Things Grow

Have you ever had something small, feel like the most monumental part of your life? We are excited to announce that Aloysius is levelling up to big brother later this year! Jess is 18 weeks pregnant with our second little love, due on 31st December.

Baby Hortin!

So far the pregnancy has been relatively smooth and baby is healthy and active. For Jess this has been quite consuming with the first couple of months of nausea and exhaustion, but we are thankful that she is overall feeling better. We are so thankful to God for this little life, and are excited to see Aloysius bloom as a big brother.

Do you speak my language?

We have known the importance of people communicating in your heart language, as this is a strong motivator for us joining Wycliffe Bible Translators Australia. But we have seen much closer to home how this can impact a person. Aloysius does not have any verbal language, but he is learning sign language, and uses certain gestures and sounds.

On a couple of occasions, we have noticed the affinity he has developed for people who use his signs, and attempt to speak his language. It makes such a difference when he can be ‘heard’ and he can express what he wants because someone speaks his language.

Are we there yet?

God continues to show us that his timing is perfect, as we grapple with a growing impatience to get to Melbourne. Like a child on a long journey, we are often asking, ‘are we there yet??’ With the baby due in December, we have decided to work towards moving to Melbourne in October. This will particularly give us the space to settle in and get ready for baby’s arrival.

Thank you so much to those who have committed to regular financial partnership, and those who have been praying for us and encouraging us in this season – we can’t get to Melbourne without you!

If you have been considering financial partnership, but haven’t gotten around to it yet, we would love it if you could either let us know, or click the button below to do it now!

Where’s Wally?

Like the classic search-and-find book, ‘Where’s Wally’, the last two weeks have felt a little bit like we are all over the place and hidden in the chaos of meeting lots of people and arranging visits to church we have connections with.

Jarod was able to go to Melbourne in mid-July for a training course called ‘Worldwide Wycliffe’. It was particularly great to look more into the Wycliffe values and their dependence on God in all things!

Having dependence on God as a value in the workplace is also so helpful in depending on God in all facets of life and a great reminder that it is God who does the work. It was also great to learn more about Wycliffe as an organisation, and so encouraging to see the number of people who are involved in some capacity in bringing Bibles to people in their heart languages!

Jess has also visited Yokine Baptist Church, where she became a Christian 16 years ago. It was a joy to reconnect with people she had known from her time there, and to be able to encourage the members of how God has worked since she left. We are continuing to meet up with individuals and families to share about what we are doing and invite them to partner with us, and have so far been encouraged and humbled by people’s responses, whether that is financial partnership, prayer, or just the chance to encourage one another. If you’d like to catch up or have us come along to your Bible study, please let us know.
